|
August 31 - The Golden Lions Sevens side starts the defence of their North Region Series title at Alberton Rugby Club on Saturday after a very succcessful 2010 season that also saw them reach the final of the national provincial championships for the first time in more than a decade.
Former Springbok centre Jorrie Muller, who also represented South Africa at Sevens, is again at the helm of the Lions’ coaching after instant success in his first season in charge. This time Muller has the assurance that he has depth on his side, as proved by the fact that in last year’s final tournament in the North Region Series the two Lions sides contested the final.
Twelve sides will play in the first of the tournaments to be held in the various provincial unions north of the Vaal River. Joining the two Lions sides will be the Blue Bulls, the Valke A and B sides, the Leopards, Pumas, Pumas EPA, Limpopo Barbarians, Limpopo B, Limpopo Bulls and Lowveld.
The tournament starts at 8am.
