UJ reach Club Champs Semi Final

September 20 - The University of Johannesburg on Monday won the battle at the Craven Stadium by qualifying for the semi finals of the national club championships being held in Stellenbosch, beating Welkom Rovers 41-20.

Several Students had to be treated at hospital after the bruising encounter in which tempers often got out of control. Scrumhalf Danny Botha, lock Shane Kirkwood, hooker Joe Smith and prop Caylib Oosthuizen are all on the injury list and UJ will have to take on champions College Rovers without these four players. And on top of that David Bulbring had to fly back to Johannesburg to join the Lions.

UJ scored six tries, four by the forwards of which two were by flanker Justin Wheeler and two by the backs.

Coach Hugo van As was not happy with the performance, saying it was scrappy and that his team did not play well. Van As and his management will decide on Tuesday wether they will be flying in any players to replace the injured ones.
