The U/19 Xerox Lions will be facing the U/19 Vodacom Blue Bulls this Saturday, 17 October 2009 in the U/19 Absa Currie Cup Semi-Final at Loftus Versfeld.
The team has shown great character, and as the only Lions team to make the semi finals in 2009, the Golden Lions Rugby Union are incredibly proud of the youngsters.
In order to reach the semi-finals, the U/19 Xerox Lions had to beat the Sharks in Durban this past weekend. At 27 – 10 down with just 15 minutes on the clock, it looked almost impossible for the Lions to pull through. However, they took their fate into their own hands, and with their semi-final dreams slipping away, they gathered themselves and performed the seemingly impossible… they won 31 – 27.
Coach, Wynand Moolman, has said that the training has gone very well, and the players are very focused ahead of their clash with the Bulls. “We have had many key players injured during the season, which has been a challenge, but the players who have stepped in to replace those key players have been phenomenal. I take my hat off to them for stepping up to the plate and playing such dynamic rugby, which has contributed enormously to the team reaching the semis”.
