October 23 - The MTN Golden Lions were ousted from the Absa Under-21 competition at Loftus on Friday when they lost 47-18 to the Blue Bulls in the semi-final of this competition.
The Blue Bulls, with five of this year’s Currie Cup side and also Sevens Springbok Sampie Mastriet in their run-on team, led 20-11 at the break. Arno Botha, CJ Stander, Francois Venter, Lohan Jacobs and Louis Fouche played Currie Cup rugby for the Blue Bulls this season and all scored on Friday.
The Blue Bulls went on to score six tries to two and ensure a final berth against the Sharks, who beat Western Province 19-12 in the other semi-final in Cape Town. The two winners will meet in the main curtain-raiser to the Absa Currie Cup final at Coca-Cola Park on Saturday.
Up 20-6 after 30 minutes following a try in the third minute, the Blue Bulls lead was never really threatened on their way to a third win over the Lions in as many outings this season.
