July 16 - Golden Lions No 8 Ruan Steenkamp will captain the SA Schools side which also includes flyhalf Jaco van der Walt, hooker Eugene le Maitre and lock Philip du Preez from the Golden Lions team that went down 28-17 to the Free State in the final match of the Craven Week in Saturday.
The Golden Lions’ good performance at the Craven Week was further rewarded with Lions flanker Willie Newman appointed captain of the SA Academy team. In his side he will also have fellow-flanker Malcom Marx, lock Stefan Vermeulen and wingers Gideon Meiring and Suprise Mayekiso of his provincial team mates.
The SA Schools and SA Academy teams for will compete in two international friendlies against a France Invitational squad in August.
The SA Academy team will take on the French Invitational XV in a curtain raiser to the Castle Tri-Nations match between the Springboks and Australia in Durban on the 13 August 2011. The SA Schools team will play the second international friendly against the French in Port Elizabeth in the curtain raiser match in preparation of the Springbok’s clash against the All Blacks at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on the 20 August 2011.
The SA Schools Team will be coached by the Pumas U18 coach Poerie van Rooyen while Eastern Province Kenneth Joseph was named as the Assistant coach. Gert Tsotetsi (Valke) was named as the Team Manager of the SA Schools side for 2011.
The SA Academy Team will be coached by the Blue Bulls U18 Academy coach Bart Schoeman while Griquas’ Joseph Jafta named as the Assistant coach. Dean Moodley (KwaZulu Natal) was named as the Team Manager of the SA Academy side for 2011.
