February 23 - The University of Johannesburg (UJ) made a clean sweep at the nnual Lions club 7s Tournament held at Alberton Rugby Club on Saturday and Sunday when they won both the senior and junior competitions.
The UJ junior team beat a young and motivated Wits University team 33-28 in the juniors' Cup Final. The UJ senior team which included a number of provincial Sevens players in their line-up, convincingly beat Raiders 44-21 in the senior Cup Final.
Two UJ players also received the Players of the Tournament awards. These Players of the Tournament were selected by Springbok Sevens selector Maree Bester.
He decidrd that Jacques Erasmus was the outstanding senior on view during the tournament and that Motusi Shuping was the best junior player.
The GLRU organisers of the tournament wish to thank the Alberton Rugby Club for hosting the tournament . as well as all the sponsors who contributed to a good and successful tournament.
