January 24 - Following a press release sent via Vuma Reputation Management on Tuesday, 24 January 2012 titled ‘GUMA TAC’s Hand Forced by New Lions Shareholder’, the Golden Lions Rugby Union would like to, once again, refute the claims laid against them in such a public and unprofessional manner.
”This is absolutely nothing new for us and is an ongoing saga which began in June 2011. We find it completely deplorable and detest the manner in which this is being handled – publicly and by using the media as a battlefield”, GLRU President Kevin de Klerk said.
”Using the media to gain acknowledgement and publicity in matters such as these shows a lack of knowledge of sporting ethos and codes and we find it very undignified.
”This matter will play itself out in the correct forum and we hope it can be resolved sooner rather than later so that we can finally dismiss the claims of “bankruptcy” and “liquidation” that have been floating around over the past few weeks.
”We as the GLRU have never reneged on our responsibilities and we need to fully understand what the basis of the claims are and what needs to be settled before this can be laid to rest. Until we are given a full disclosure on the claim, we cannot pay back any of the alleged “loaned amounts” to the GLRU.
”We will defend any action that is brought against us”, de Klerk said.
In the meantime, it is business as usual at the Golden Lions Rugby Union. The MTN Lions have been hard at training for the past few weeks, and Coach John Mitchell has just named a full strength team to play DHL Stormers this Friday night in a warm up match in Cape Town. New initiatives, agreements and sponsorships are on the table at the GLRU and some very exciting things will be happening over the next few weeks.
