January 24 – Fullback Joe Pietersen, who has returned to the DHL Stormers after a stint overseas, has been included in the franchise team for the warm-up match against the MTN Lions at Newlands on Friday night.
Former Springbok prop Deon Carstens, new to the Stormers, starts off the bench for a side that is close to the Stormers’ best with World Cup Springboks filling the four three-quarter berths. Gary van Aswegen seems like the early favourite for the flyhalf position although former Bulls and Lions flyhalf Burton Francis has been selected on the bench.
Exciting young lock Eben Etzebeth starts in the team to be captained by Schalk Burger.
