The deputy president of the GLRU Altmann Allers and Sampie Pienaar, who has served the union over many years, have been nominated as candidates for the SA Rugby Union executive council..
Eight nominations for the executive have been received, with four to be elected to the ecxo at the annual general meeting on March 26. There are only two candidates for president, with incumbent Oregan Hoskins being opposed by his deputy Mark Alexander. Former deputy president Mike Stofile has not been nominated for any position. Alexander as incumbent deputy president is an automatic nomination and he will again stand for this position where he will be opposed if he is not elected president. The other nominations for deputy president are Dr Jan Marais, the chairman of the interim executive council of Saru and a former president of the Griffons Rugby Union; Mpumalanga Rugby Union president Hein Mentz; present Saru vice-president and former Valke president Rautie Rautenbach; and Western Province president Tobie Titus. If Rautenbach is not elected as deputy president, his opposition to retain his position as vice-president will come from the president of the Griquas Rugby Union Dawie Groenewald; the Leopards’ president James Stoffberg and Marais.
