Profile Paragraph: Grobbelaar, or “Baywatch” as he is commonly referred to, has made a name for himself as a specialist openside flanker adept at effecting turnovers in even the most unlikely situations. A born leader, Grobbelaar stepped into the Lions’ captaincy role with ease when called upon in 2007, and progressed in strength and stature to become one of the best captains in South African provincial rugby. An injury during the 2010 Super Rugby competition saw him out of action for almost 9 months. Grobbelaar made a full recovery and a welcome return in 2011 where he and his teammates enjoyed some historic victories in the Super Rugby competition and a home win in the Currie Cup – the first in 61 years.
