MTN Golden Lions change as they chase first place |
|
April 14 - Hein Cronje gest a start at flyhalf for the MTN Golden Lions on Saturday in their match against the Border Bulldogs at Coca-Cola Park that should confirm them as the top side in the North Section of the Vodacom Cup competition. The Lions need two log points to ensure that they finish on top of the log for a home quarter-final.
Cronje will have JP Joubert as his scrumhalf in an all-new halfback pairing in a backline that also sees former Blue Bulls, Western Province and Stormers centre Dylan Des Fountain as Alwyn Hollenbach’s partner at centre in place of Hoffman Maritz.
Hooker Edgar Marutlulle moves down from the Super squad in a swap with Martin Bezuidenhout. In fact, with Ross Geldenhuys moving up from the bench and UJ’s loosehead Caylib Oosthuizen brought into the squad, it is a totally new front row for the Golden Lions.
The loss of No 8 Dries van Schalkwyk and flank Cobus Grobbelaar (both in the Super Rugby team’s squad) is partly offset by the return of Jonathan Mokuena with Renaldo Bothma moving up from the bench to complete a loose trio with Jaco Kriel.
The team is:
Marius Delport, Wandile Mjekevu, Dylan Des Fountain , Alwyn Hollenbach, Dusty Noble, Hein Cronje, JP Joubert, Jonathan Mokuena, Renaldo Bothma, Jaco Kriel, David Bulbring (capt.), Johan Snyman, Ross Geldenhuys, Edgar Marutlulle, Caylib Oosthuizen. Replacements: Abraham le Roux, Ruan Dreyer, Rinus Riekert, Justin Wheeler, Michael Bondesio, Christopher Janse van Rensburg, Divan Ferguson.
