Killian to fullback for Xerox Lions after Taute’s injury |
September 30 - Xerox Lions coach John Mitchell is continuing with his policy to change his side as little as possible. He has made only one enforced change to the side that plays the Free State Cheetahs in an Absa Currie Cup match in Bloemfontein on Saturday.
The shoulder injury to fullback Jaco Taute has resulted in the inclusion of Deon van Rensburg on the wing in place of Michael Killian, who moves to fullback.
On the bench Warren Whiteley returns to the match-22 in place of Johan Snyman with Trevor Hall covering as the lock replacement. Marius Delport takes the place of Deon van Rensburg on the bench.
The match is extremely important to both teams. With only one round remaining after Saturday, the two teams go into the match in Bloemfontein with the Free State only two points ahead of the Lions on the log as they vie for a semifinal spot.
The loser on Saturday will find it hard to get into the semi-finals on October 16, as both the teams play against sides they are unlikely to forfeit log points to. The Lions face the Pumas at Coca-Cola Park and the Cheetahs are away to the leopards at Bafokeng Stadium.
Bonus points on Saturday and the following week could also have an important bearing on the log positions.
The Lions team to face the Free State Cheetahs is:
15 Michael Killian, 14 Jannie Boshoff, 13 Waylon Murray,12 Doppies La Grange, 11 Deon van Rensburg, 10 Elton Jantjies, 9 Jano Vermaak, 8 Joshua Strauss, 7 Wikus van Heerden, 6 Derick Minnie, 5 Franco van der Merwe (capt), 4 George Earle, 3 Ross Geldenhuys, 2 Martin Bezuidenhout, 1 JC Janse van Rensburg. Replacements: 16 Edgar Marutlulle, 17 Wayne Swart, 18 Trevor Hall, 19 Warren Whiteley, 20 JP Joubert, 21 Burton Francis, 22 Marius Delport. |
