What is your claim to fame? I am very hard working and energetic.
What is your most embarrassing rugby moment, either during a game or during training? When I was in grade 7 I had the ball in hand and there were no defenders near me, I went for the try line and made it over... unfortunately I discovered that I knocked the ball forward and my great try was not allowed.
What is your craziest food combination? ( e.g. some people eat bananas with peanut butter) I enjoy a plain jam sandwich.
Congratulations you were capped on Thursday evening last week, what does that mean to you and how do you feel? It felt amazing and was a big moment in my career. Being capped was a huge honor and it is a great feeling knowing that I am officially a Lions player.
You were involved in the first High Performance Players and Coaches Course in Pretoria in May. How did the course benefit you? It helped me a lot, especially in the mental side of the game. John Allan and Sean Fitzpatrick worked with me on the position of hooker and having the opportunity to spend time with them was a huge honor.
If your house was burning down, what three items you would save first? My Bible, my car keys ( its a new car) and my pillow (I love my pillow)
If you could change one law within rugby what law would it be and why? I would change the breakdown, because there is not enough time to get the ball and if you can’t get the ball then you have to release it. (It’s very frustrating)
In your opinion what is the definition of a great rugby player? To me a great rugby player is Sean Fitzpatrick, because of his leadership and they way he played the game. He had passion, zest and a real love for the game.
What is your life motto? If you want to be the best, you must train like the best.
Define yourself in 3 words Hard working, straight forward and spontaneous
Have you always wanted to play hooker or did you have another position in mind when you started to take rugby seriously? I was 8th man till I was in grade 7, then I moved to centre (I thought I had some speed) and then when I got to grade 9 they moved me to hooker. Since then its always been hooker, and I haven’t looked back.
If rugby was not an option for you, where would you see yourself now? I would be a farmer.
What is your ambition in life? To be the best rugby player in the Springbok team and to make a success of everything I do. |
