Pikitup overwhelmed by support for Clean Up Day on 05 June |
June 2 - Growing support for Clean Up Day on 05 June has been overwhelming for Pikitup. In addition to notable media, the Golden Lions have put their weight behind the campaign. “It’s incredible to see so many facets of Joburg society make a strong commitment to Clean Up Day,” says Zami Nkosi, Managing Director of Pikitup. “It shows that they believe in what the campaign can do for our City particularly as we prepare to host thousands of tourists from all across the globe.
SABC 1, SABC 2, e.tv, Sowetan, The Star, The Citizen, Caxton Community Newspapers, YFM, Jozi FM, Eldos FM, Talk Radio 702 and Highveld Stereo are some of the influential media behind the campaign which is aimed at ensuring a cleaner city ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and beyond. “Celebrities, religious groups, schools and businesses have also shown their support for the campaign and we are expecting over 60 000 people to pitch in for Clean Up Day this year,” adds Nkosi.
Clean Up Day will take place on 05 June 2010, six days ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup with over 74 sites strategically located across the City of Johannesburg. This will help ensure that the worst spots are cleaned thereby presenting a world class African City to visitors at a time when the spotlight will be on South Africa and its host cities.
