Golden Lions & Gauteng Provincial Government Join Forces

The Golden Lions Development Department and the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture & Recreation, Directorate: Sport Development & Coordination, have joined forces in ensuring that capacity building in our Ingonyama League Clubs takes place.

The cooperation between these two bodies have led to 110 coaches, all from previously disadvantaged communities, having the opportunity to attend the IRB Level 1 coaching course on 26 and 27 October 2009.

The Golden Lions will present the course to the coaches while the Department will cover the cost incurred by the 110 coaches. The Department will also pay the travelling expenses incurred by the coaches.

The total amount for the course is R 57 500.00.

It is indeed a historical occasion since it will be the first time in the history of the Golden Lions that 110 coaches will receive such invaluable support from the Department.

This is an indication of what can be achieved when federations and government cooperate.

On behalf of the Golden Lions Rugby Union we wish to thank the department for their assistance which made this historical event possible.  We trust this is the first of many such joint ventures in our sport.
