WEST RAND RUGBY MEDIC COURSE

SARU’s attempts to minimize catastrophic rugby injuries kicked off with a bang on the West Rand. Communities where rugby was introduced during 2007/08 were exposed to a basic, rugby specific, first aid course

West Rand Region hosted the Medic Aid Course and it was so successful and the turn out was exceptional. Although it was late, educators from schools in Kagiso & Swaneville and the two West Rand Ingonyama League Clubs, Kagiso Sting Rugby Club and Swaneville Young Stars Rugby Club attended. The attendance number was 60 participant and 1 development coordinator.

The instructor did well when he presented the course the theory went well and practical side of it was super. All participants enjoyed the practicals which required the participants to demonstrate the newly acquired knowledge and skills was great fun.

The following areas that was highlighted and emphasized on was:

  • Spine injury,
  • Neck injuries,
  • CPR,
  • Conscious players,
  • Introduction to SPINELINE

We wish to thank the GLRU Development Department for arranging the course and EMT for doing such a brilliant job in presenting the course.
