Referees Annual Fitness Test and Law Discussion |
February 8 – On Saturday, 5 February, the Golden Lions Rugby Union’s referees met at the Johannesburg Stadium to show off their fitness. They started with a run at 6am where they had a choice of running the “Bleep Test” or doing a 2.4km run around the track. A total of 98 members participated in the tests.
After the fitness tests, a law discussion took place in the auditorium which was attended by 149 people. The purpose of the discussion was to bring all the referees up to speed in terms of new applications and any law changes. It was encouraging to see the number of coaches who attended. This will certainly help in closing the gap between the referees and coaches.
This was the first of three fitness tests and with this approach, the GLRU strive to maintain referees’ fitness throughout the season. The second tests will be held in June. |
