The Golden
Lions Rugby Union and
Coca-Cola Park Stadium Management are aware of the difficulties experienced by some supporters on Saturday, 13 February at the stadium for the Auto & General Lions vs. Vodacom Stormers match.
Both the GLRU and the Stadium Management would like to apologise to those who made the trip to the stadium and experienced problems. Ellis Park World of Sport CEO Paul Appalsamy said, “we are taking these complaints very seriously and would like to apologise to our supporters. We are dealing with each complaint individually and are striving to address all the issues.
“To ensure that the problems experienced on Saturday are addressed, we will ensure better parking and access control, visible monitoring and supervision of the parking entrances, and enhanced vigilance by stewards and safety officers at all entry points.”
The selling of parking tickets through Computicket (for Beeld North and Beeld South) and through vendors on match days (for Beeld North, Beeld South and Standard Bank Arena) are new initiatives of the GLRU and the Stadium Management, and unfortunately a few “teething problems” were experienced.
“We are working to rectify the issues of ineffective stewards overselling parking tickets and there being too few parking bays available on the day, and are striving to ensure that it is easy and hassle free for supporters to enter the secure parking areas around
Coca-Cola Park.
“Stadium Management has decided to temporarily reduce the number of parking bays to ensure that everyone in possession of a ticket is able to enter their allocated parking area with ease”, GLRU Commercial Manager, Andre Homan said.
The Auto & General Lions will be playing the Chiefs at
Coca-Cola Park on Friday, 19 February at 8pm, and we encourage supporters to purchase their match day tickets (which cost between R50 and R100, depending on where you sit in the stadium) and parking tickets (just R50 each) from either Computicket or the
Coca-Cola Park ticket office ahead of the game to ensure a pleasant experience. For those who decide to attend on the day, clearly marked vendors – in bright yellow bibs – will be selling parking tickets on the corner of Beit and Sivewright streets and the corner of Voorhout and Bertrams.
To further ensure a pleasant experience is had by all supporters, the South African Police Services will be monitoring crowd behaviour during matches to ensure no unpleasant incidents occur and all supporters are safe within the stadium.
